Metamorphosis spawned out of a desire to depict a connection with amphibians.
To explore the notion that, despite changed form, we are bound by the same fate of environment.
Metamorphosis, conceived with conspirator Gabby Wild, invites you to view frogs and salamanders through a new lens.
To marvel at such living manifestations of color and form, and imagine living in a world without.
During rain-soaked hours spent crouched on mossy forest floors I have photographed too many frogs to count. But this shoot was different.
Dappled jungle backdrops were replaced by a painted human canvas.
Sunlight was swapped for studio strobes and soft-boxes.
Compositions were carefully conceptualized and created before capture.
Whilst willing the cooperation of creatures wholly indifferent to the idea.
But beauty emerged in the moments between those most meticulously planned.
The metamorphosis. Is it possible to witness the effortless transformation of a frog from denizen of murky waters to one of clear, bright air and not be changed?
In frogs we find a most primal connection to our past. In us, frogs find the all-powerful script-writers of their - and our own - future.
Let’s not screw it up.
